Mt. Kailash Helicopter Tour
11 Days, 10 Nights
Mount Kailash
For pilgrims, a journey to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar epitomizes the culmination of their spiritual quest, offering a rare blend of beauty, seclusion, and spiritual sanctity. Meanwhile, for adventure enthusiasts, it promises a thrilling escapade amidst remote landscapes. Opting for the Mount Kailash Tour by Helicopter ensures the quickest and most convenient access to this awe-inspiring mountain.
In Hindu mythology, Mount Kailash holds profound significance as the sacred abode of Lord Shiva, revered above all other deities. Hindus believe that a pilgrimage to Kailash grants liberation from the illusions and entanglements of worldly existence. Similarly, Jains refer to it as Ashtapada, associating it with their revered figure Rishabha, while Bon followers consider it the domain of the Sky Goddess, Sipaimen.
Our scenic helicopter tour encompasses the core highlights of the Mount Kailash Trip by Helicopter package. Commencing with a regular flight to Nepalgunj, followed by a transit to Simikot, a helicopter journey to Taklakot, we initiate our overland expedition to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar. After the challenging overland journey to Mount Kailash Mansarovar and obtaining necessary permits, we undertake the equally demanding task of circumambulating the sacred mountain. A ritualistic dip in Lake Mansarovar precedes our journey to Darchem, the base camp of Mount Kailash, from where we embark on a rigorous three-day trek around the mountain. Upon completing the Kora at Mount Kailash, we shall return to Taklakot and fly back to Simikot via helicopter. Subsequently, we shall catch a regular flight to Nepalgunj and proceed onward to Kathmandu.
Although conducting the Kailash Parikrama by helicopter is an option, it comes at a considerable expense. For those preferring a road tour from Kathmandu to Mansarovar, we recommend considering our itinerary for the Kailash Mansarovar Overland Tour via Kerung.

After breakfast, we will commence our day with a brief drive to Tarboche FlagPole, also known as Shershong, passing through Yamadwar. Taraboche serves as the starting point for the revered Kailash Kora pilgrimage. Here, we have the opportunity to arrange for yaks to transport our belongings, should the need arise. The trek from Tarboche FlagPole to Dirapuk (4,860m) spans approximately 16 km and typically takes around 5-7 hours to complete. For those who prefer an alternative to trekking, there is the option to return to Darchen or Mansarovar and await the group’s return. We shall conclude the night in Dirapuk.
Day 7: Dirapuk-Zuthulphuk
On the second day of the Mount Kailash trek, we shall face a challenging journey navigating high valleys and the Shiwa-Tsal charnel ground. Along the way, pilgrims often leave offerings symbolizing their past lives at Dolma La Pass (5,630m), marked by colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The trek to Zuthulphuk spans 22 km and typically takes 9-10 hours to complete, requiring determination and perseverance. Our team shall stay overnight in Zuthulphuk.
Day 8: Zuthulphuk-Taklakot
Following breakfast, we embark on a leisurely exploration of the guesthouse/camp surroundings, taking in the serene atmosphere of caves, temples, and shrines. The Kejia temple, a significant site for Tibetan devotees, is bustling with activity as locals maintain its sanctity. Meanwhile, the caves provide a tranquil space for meditation and reflection. After our exploration, we will trek 10 km to complete Mount Kailash Kora near Darchen. Transportation awaits to transfer us back to Taklakot (4-5 hour drive), where we can unwind and reflect on our journey. We shall stay in Taklakot for the night.
